Fostering safe, strong, and supportive Communities & Workplaces

We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive workplace for our employees, while supporting the local communities in which we operate across the globe. By creating a work environment that is inclusive and respectful, we help our employees to flourish. By investing in the environmental, health, educational, and cultural goals of local communities, we positively impact those around us.

Meeting The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals

Our focus on communities and workplaces within our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program ties in with four of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages’
  • ‘Enable upward socioeconomic mobility through education’
  • ‘Reducing inequality within and among countries’
  • ‘Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable’

By fostering a positive working environment and implementing community support programs, including educational and environmental schemes, we contribute directly to these SDGs and, in some cases, to several others as well.

Our targets for Better Communities & Workplaces

Originally a family business and now a leading player in a vital industry, we consider safe, healthy workplaces, and community support a top priority. As we continue to reach further in these areas, we set new targets. Here are just three 2021 examples:

Target #1: A strengthened onboarding program

With a new program being rolled out in 2021, we want to give all newcomers everything they need to feel welcome, valued, and equipped to succeed in their new roles, while integrating smoothly in their team and department, and in Rousselot and Darling Ingredients.

Target #2: A reinforced safety culture

Getting everyone ‘home safe, every day’ is our #1 priority for employees, contractors, and anyone visiting our facilities. That’s why our Health and Safety policy and training program are so important. In 2021, we are implementing a renewed safety culture awareness program at all our sites. It includes higher awareness about safety rules, additional training, new equipment designed to improve safety, and the availability of experts to help with any issues.

Target #3: Sedex for all our plants

With 9 of our sites currently registered with Sedex, we aim to have all our plants registered on the platform soon. Sedex is a world-leading ethical trade organization that helps businesses improve working conditions in global supply chains and assesses on-site standards of labor, workplace health and safety, as well as environmental and business ethics. Rousselot has been a member of Sedex since 2010.
