Setting waste reduction objectives

Between October and November 2020, Rousselot Angoulême analyzed its waste production and mapped the route of its waste products to work out its carbon footprint. After the results, the team outlined clear steps for improvement. These include, the following three:

  • Finding a waste service provider closer to the site; the selected company could also reuse and recycle cardboard and scrap metal from our factory
  • Improving the waste sorting to reduce residual waste production by 5% in the next two years
  • Decreasing the quantity of water used during production to optimize water intake as well as sludge at the wastewater treatment plant.

Next steps we’re taking now

At the next ‘Materials Efficiency Pact’ meeting in June 2022,  Rousselot Angoulême’s team will present its progress report as well as the plant’s improvement plan for material efficiency. The plan will include more communication towards the employees, educating them about waste-related regulations and, last but not least, identifying further actions for optimizing out the waste management. Running our internal waste management teams in accordance with the regulations for waste sorting, storage, and traceability is also part of the improvement plan.

At Rousselot, responsible production is one of our main Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) pillars:

The three players behind the Pact

The project was started in 2020 by three public and private entities:

  • Grand Angoulême (Angoulême city urban community)
  • CCI Charente (Chamber of Commerce for Charente)
  • Regional Association, Soltena

Together, they partnered to help companies in different sectors promote eco-friendly activities.
