Caring for the planet with responsible production and innovation

We support a circular and sustainable economy, not just by creating value from collagen-rich by-products from other industries, but by repurposing the by-products of our own operations. We do everything we can to reduce our energy and water consumption and our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Meeting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals

The focus within our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program on Health & Well-being ties in with four of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • ‘Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’
  • ‘Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all’
  • ‘Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation’
  • ‘Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns’

With our ongoing commitment to reducing energy and water intake through innovation and our business model focused on valorizing by-products, we contribute directly to these SDGs.

Responsible production targets

Responsible production and sustainability are a continuous priority at Rousselot with new targets being set every year. Here are two examples of goals for 2021 and onwards:

Target #1: 5 % energy reduction per unit of production by 2025 and green electricity development

Reducing our energy consumption is one of our most important objectives. Alongside this, we regularly implement new processes at our plants, selecting equipment that uses less energy and switching to renewable energy sources and green electricity at plants where this is possible.

Target #2: 5% water intake reduction per unit of production by 2025

This target applies to all our plants worldwide. We encourage the use of innovative production processes to reduce our water intake by 2025.

Responsibility at the center of our operations

Our sense of responsibility is strong and firmly anchored. From constantly streamlining production processes to responsibly sourcing safe, traceable, and high-quality raw materials, we are always on the lookout for new ways to reduce our footprint and to safeguard our contribution to vital industries.
