The ISS team have already taken some major steps forward, says the head of the plant, Bertrand Tauzin.

While ESG has always been top of mind at Rousselot, we are adopting new policies around the following three pillars, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. Health and well-being
  2. Responsible production
  3. Better communities and workplaces

A necessity

Bertrand Tauzin is excited about the program and ISS’s role as pilot location. “When the ESG program was announced, we welcomed it, because we knew that it was a necessity,” he says. “Thanks to the experts who have helped us, we were well prepared to implement our Action Plan.”

Four steps

The Isle sur la Sorgue team began rolling out its Action Plan with these steps:

  • Creating a steering committee
  • Meeting with the managers of the site
  • Training
  • Communicating about the project on screens, with flyers sent to our employees’ homes

Preserving the Sorgue river is our top priority

The next phase was to set clear goals. Bertrand continues: “For example, we have set ourselves a challenge to protect the Sorgue river from any pollution. That’s why we started the water filtration project, to secure our operations and prevent any risk of polluting leakage towards the Sorgue.”

Community, water, energy

Another focus point is the impact of production on the local community, says Bertrand. “We asked a specialized organization to perform an acoustic study to identify sources of noise coming from our plant. Depending on the outcome, we will put in place measures, while remaining open to discussion with our neighborhood.”

Of course, reducing our water and energy consumption is also a key goal, in line with the aims of Rousselot and our parent company, Darling Ingredients.

A big THANK YOU!

Bertrand is grateful for what has been achieved so far. “I have to say a big thank you to the whole team for their work. In a complicated year, we got there, and the best is yet to come. My wish is that we continue to roll out our Action Plan and ensure that ESG becomes part of the DNA of ISS. I wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2022.”
