The city of Ghent is strongly committed to the environment and is carrying out numerous actions in this field such as the implementation of a low-emission zone without high-polluting vehicles. In the same spirit, Rousselot Ghent’s plant is committed to limiting the impact of its industrial activities. The construction of a green roof is an example of a sustainable development project at the site. The roof, pictured below, has been covered with succulent sedums, which are exceptional independent plants.

This construction contributes to Rousselot’s pursuit of the 7th United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) aiming to offer affordable and clean energy.

The  green roof also provides a number of additional benefits: it buffers a significant amount of rainwater, ensuring a delayed discharge into the sewer system. And, the buffering capacity of the roof helps to protect against both cold and heat.

The installation of this green roof highlights Rousselot’s aim to help limit the impact of climate change by taking real steps that make a difference, wherever we can.
